Pediatric & Adolescents

Katie Berna, DNP, FNP-BC
Katie received her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Post-Master’s Certificate – Family Nurse Practitioner from Wilmington University 
Katie received a Bachelor Degree Nursing Science, Masters Health Administration, and Masters Nursing Science from the University of Phoenix.
Katie has over twenty years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, and is certified as an ANC  - Family Nurse Practitioner.
Katie’s previous experience includes working at Delaware Hospice, Atlantic General Hospital, and Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, as well as a Nursing Instructor for Wor-Wic Community College and Wilmington University.
Marisel Santiago, MD
Dr. Santiago joined La Red Health Center in January 2012. She received her Doctor in Medicine from the Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and completed her internship at the Mayaguez Medical Center, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Dr. Santiago is a bilingual pediatrician who has lived and worked in the Sussex County area for the past several years, and as a result is very aware of the health care needs of its residents.
Maribel R. Woodward MD
Dr. Maribel R. Woodward is a pediatrician working with La Red Health Center since June 2019. She received her medical degree from La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and her pediatric residency was at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA.  She also has a Master of Arts, Dance Movement Therapy from Gaucher College, Baltimore, MD (Fulbright Scholarship).
Dr Woodward has more than thirty-years experience as a physician and more than fifteen-years as a pediatrician.  She has been a primary care pediatrician in Delaware and in Georgia and she does medical missions to rural areas in Central America and the Caribbean. 
Prior to becoming a doctor in the USA, she worked in Hong Kong with the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and with Vietnamese patients located in refugee camps. 
She is an avid road cyclist for more than a decade and she has participated in several cyclist events doing 50 to 100 miles in Arizona, Massachusetts, Delaware and Georgia.
Nieves Zaldivar, MD, F.A.A.P.
Dr. Zaldivar received her M.D from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the Institute of Havana in Cuba.
Dr. Zaldivar has over thirty years of clinical experience, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Zaldivar is also active in a number or organizations including the American Medical Association, American College of Physician Executives, and the National Association of Managed Care Physicians.
Dr. Zaldivar comes to La Red Health Center from the Nemours Pediatric Clinics in Milford and Seaford where she was a Staff Pediatrician. 
Dr. Zaldivar has received numerous honors and awards including being a Herman Muehlstein Scholar at the Muehlstein Foundation in New York.
Dr. Zaldivar is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Zaldivar has also authored and published many papers including: The Impact of Welfare Sanctions on the Health of Infants and Toddlers.
Cara Grove, Family Nurse Practitioner
Cara joined La Red Health Center in September of 2018 and works as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Georgetown Family Practice site providing primary care assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults and children. Cara is also the coordinator of La Red Health Center’s Wellness Center at Sussex Technical High School.
Prior to joining La Red Health Center, Cara has had over 25 years of clinical experience working as a nurse in various environments including: Bayhealth Medical Center, Christiana Care, private practices in Kent and Sussex counties and with the US Navy and Marine Corp.  Cara also serves as Adjunct Faculty for Wilmington University, performing site visits to nurse practitioner student clinical sites and reviewing and grading nurse practitioner assignments. Cara is a US Air Force Reserve Veteran and has worked as both a flight nurse and nurse practitioner in the Air Force Reserve.
Cara earned an Associate Degree, Medical Office Assistance, and an Associate Degree, Nursing from Delaware Technical and Community College. Cara also earned a Bachelor of Science (with distinction) in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner from Wilmington University.

Cinarda Hamilton, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC
Cinarda is a PNCB board certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.  She graduated with a Bachelor's in Nursing from Jefferson University and earned a Master's in Advanced Practice specializing in Pediatric Primary Care. Her graduate research studies included the effectiveness of vitamins treating primary dysmenorrhea in female adolescents, which initiated a passion for Adolescent Health.
As a Registered Nurse, she has over 8 years of pediatric experience working at long-term care facilities and Medical daycare centers for fragile and chronically ill children. Cinarda is a member of Nation Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitionrs (NAPNAP), Society for Adolescent Health & Medicine (SAHM), and awarded Nurse Leadership by Sigma Theta Tau International (Nursing Honor Society) 
Cinarda loves being socially involved within her community by participating in fundraiser walks and enjoys taking daily walks with her family. During downtime, she enjoys blogging health topics and tips for teens and young adults. As a mother, she values the importance of open communication between parent and child, which she believes fosters a healthy relationship and a healthy lifestyle.

Fabricio Alarcon, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Alarcon holds his Doctor of Medicine degree from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru. He completed his residency at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the Primary Care/Internal Medicine Program. Dr. Alarcon is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Obesity Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Alarcon is a Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor and Provider and aslo member of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
Dr. Alarcon is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine and serves on numerous committees. He has authored, published and presented over a dozen research papers. Dr. Alarcon has been La Red Health Center's Chief Medical Officer since its inception. 
Rolando E. Gonzalez Diaz, MD
Dr. Gonzalez is an experienced Board Certified Family Physician. He is currently licensed to practice in both the State of Delaware as well as the state of New York where he trained.
He did his internship at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in New York and completed his Family Practice training at The Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, which is affiliated with the prestigious Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Afterwards, Dr. Gonzalez remained as an Attending Physician at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital outpatient service as part of a network that provides care for over a million patients a year. He was also part of the inpatient team.
Dr. Gonzalez received his M.D. degree from Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the first University in the Americas.
Dr. Gonzalez is a member of the American Medical Association, The American Academy of Physicians, and the Scientific Society of New York. In 2008, he made a Poster Presentation on Carcinoma presenting as Microangiopathic Hemolytic Anemia at the University of Delaware.  He is fluent in both English and Spanish. 
Ericka Taylor-Daniel, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Ericka has significant experience treating patients in multiple settings including: long term care, ambulatory surgery, hospice and medical surgical nursing.
Ericka joined La Red Health Center on March 21, 2016
Prior to joining La Red Health Center, Ericka served as Family Nurse Practitioner, Director Clinical Services for Connections Community Services Program in Georgetown, Delaware, where she provided primary and urgent care services to patients fifteen and older. Ericka also worked as a Staff Registered Nurse at the Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford, Delaware and was a member of the Delaware Technical and Community College Adjunct Faculty Terry Campus.
Ericka received her Masters of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner from Wilmington University in May 2015, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in May 2011, and Associates of Science in Nursing in 1997 from Drexel University Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Ericka earned her family nurse practitioner credentials through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2015.

Ruby Fairchild, Family Nurse Practitioner
Ruby joined La Red Health Center in October of 2018 and has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Georgetown Family Practice site.
Prior to joining La Red Health Center, Ruby has had experience working as a registered nurse in a home care setting providing PICC line therapy, tracheostomy care, wound care, hospice care, joint rehabilitation, medication management, and dietary counseling, 
Ruby earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Connecticut College as well a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Program from the Columbia University School of Nursing.
During the course of her studies, Ruby has had a significant amount student Family Nurse Practitioner Clinical Experience working in setting such as:
·     The Primary Care area of the Theodore C. Docu Clinic in New York City
·     The Pediatric area of the Refuah Health Center in Spring Valley, NY

Ruby is credentialed as an ANCC Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
and as a Basic Life Support Provider by the American Heart Association
Ruby has also authored and published a qualitative study that evaluated the acceptability of the use of cellular glucose meters in diabetes care management and presented a poster session on improving accessibility to interpersonal violence screenings tools in the primary care setting.
Claudia Pierce, Adult Nurse Practitioner – Board Certified (ANP-BC)
Claudia joined La Red Health Center in January of 2019. Claudia will work at the Georgetown Family Practice site as well as at LRHC’s satellite sites at the CHEER Long Neck and Ocean View Activity Center’s.
Prior to joining La Red Health Center, Claudia has had experience working as an Adult Nurse and Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner in private practice, a correctional institution, an inpatient psychiatric and a hospital providing medical management, managing chronic care patients, consulting with specialists and transitioning patients home after discharge from a hospital. 
Claudia earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and a Master of Science, Nursing, Adult Nurse Practitioner from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Claudia is licensed as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, RN Licensure and certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Claudia is also certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support, and is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
Cheryl Rash, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC
Cheryl joined La Red Health Center in February, 2020 and works as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Georgetown Family Practice site providing primary care assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults and children.
Prior to joining La Red Health Center, Cheryl has over twenty-five years of clinical experience as a registered nurse and is certified as an ANCC-Family Nurse Practitioner.  Cheryl’s previous experience includes working in School Health, Christiana Care Health System, Visiting Nurse Association, with extensive Hi-Tech children needs, and Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. 
Cheryl earned Certified Dental Assistant from Medix School, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Delaware Technical and Community College. A Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Nursing from Wesley College with a focus on Health and Wellness Promotion and a post masters certificate Family Nurse Practitioner from Wilmington University.

Patty Walton, Family Nurse Practitioner-BC
Patty has had significant experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Home Health Nurse and Labor and Delivery Nurse for various Sussex County Health Care organizations.
Patty initially joined La Red Health Center in September of 2007 and worked as a Registered Nurse until March of 2011, providing direct patient care for primary care and obstetrical patients as well as interpreting services for medical practitioners.
Patty has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Lewes Medical and Surgical Associates, providing primary care services (assess, diagnose, prescribe and treat) for diverse patient populations aged 11 years and older.
Patty received an MSN- Family Practice Nurse Practitioner from Wilmington University in December of 2010, a BSN from Salisbury University in December of 2005, an MA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Indiana University in December 1997, and a BA in Spanish from Washington College in May 1996
Patty is credentialed as an ANCC Family Practice NP, a Certified Medical Examiner by the National Registry of Medical Examiners, US Department of
Transportation and a certified Medical Interpreter in Spanish.

Oral Health

Juan M. Cabrera, DMD
Dr. Cabrera received his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1997 and Post Certificate General Dentistry (GPR) in 1998 from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
Dr. Cabrera has had significant work experience at Oficina Dental Cabrera & Nunez, C.S.P., in San Juan, P.R. and at Intermed Oral Care, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. For the last 10 years he has treated patients from a nonprofit corporation in PR that helps HIV patients to have a better quality of life. Dr. Cabrera is a strong believer in preventive dentistry. He has given orientation to young kids trying to raise awareness about oral hygiene.
Dr. Cabrera is a member of Colegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Puerto Rico since 1998.
Phyllis Colombaro, DDS
Dr. Colombaro received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry and a M.S. in Microbiology from McNeese State University.
Since 1987, Dr. Colombaro has worked as an associate in different private practices and in 1994, she opened her own private practice and provided dental care to all age groups. Dr. Colombaro’s philosophy has always been, “Patient First.” Now, she shares the philosophy of “Patient First” with La Red Health Center, which is a Patient Centered Medical Home.
Lourdes L. Nunez, DMD
Since she was a little girl, Dr. Nunez wanted to become a dentist. She came from Aguada, a western town in Puerto Rico, and moved to San Juan to study at the University of Puerto Rico where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B. S. in Sciences. She was admitted to the Recinto de Ciencias Medicas of the University of Puerto Rico and received her DMD in 1998 from the School of Dental Medicine.
She began practicing in different private dental clinics until she decided to establish her own practice in San Juan in the year 2000.
Dr. Nunez has been member of Colegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Puerto Rico since 1998.
In 2017, she decided to move to Delaware. To Dr. Nunez, her profession is not a job, but a way to help others have a better quality of life and the best reward is the gratitude of her patients.
Michelle Connor, Registered Dental Hygienist, Ph.D.
Michelle is a dental hygienist who earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Salisbury University and a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Maryland Dental School.
Michelle has significant work experience both in  private practice settings as well as with another Federally Qualified Health Center.
Michelle also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from Walden University.
Delaney Sears, Registered Dental Hygienist
Delaney is a registered dental hygienist who earned an Associate of Science, Dental Hygiene from Delaware Technical Community College. 
Delaney was also a the recipient of the “Excellence in Oral Health Promotion” award from Delaware Technical Community College, and is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists Association. 

Behavioral Health

Jose Capiro, MD
Dr. Capiro provides case consultation to all of our behavioral health providers for adult patients, collaborates with the Advanced Practice Nurses in behavioral health and is involved in our expansion of the integration of behavioral health and primary care.
Dr. Capiro received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad CETEC, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Dr. Capiro completed his residency training at the Division of Health & Social Services - Medical Center of Delaware, and is Board Certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
Dr. Capiro is bilingual.
Dr. Capiro is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Psychiatric Society of Delaware, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the Delaware Medical Reserve Corps, and the Content Review Board for Psychiatrists - the Professional Television Network.
Danielle Boyer LCSW
Danielle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Hypnotherapist.
Danielle earned her Master’s degree from Temple University in Pennsylvania with an emphasis on health and mental health. 
Danielle has over 8 years of experience working with both children and adults,and she has a specialization in maternal mental health and women’s issues. 
Cindy Cunningham, PMHCNS / NP
Cindy holds a Bachelor of Science, Nursing from Delaware State University, a Master of Science, Nursing and M.S. Business-Health Care Administration from Wilmington College, a Post-Masters Psychiatric Nursing CNS from the University of Delaware, and a Post Masters Family Psychiatric NP from Vanderbilt University.
She is certified as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, and as a Nurse Executive from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Cindy will work out of the Georgetown and Seaford Family Practice sites and see children 10 and older as well as adults.
P. Yvonne Dodd, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Yvonne is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker and provides counseling at La Red Health Center two days a week. She has worked over thirty years with the Latino community and although she is not a native Latina has been told that she has a "Latino heart".
Yvonne learned Spanish by studying at the University of Barcelona, Barcelona Spain and is a graduate from Juniata College (1978) and the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work in 1996. After college she lived and worked in Ecuador, South America as a Peace Corps volunteer.
Guilford Hurst, DNP, APRN-BC
Dr. Hurst joined La Red Health Center (LRHC) in December of 2018 as a Clinical Supervisor overseeing LRHC’s  Behavioral Health Consultants located at LRHC’s Family Practice Sites in Georgetown, Seaford and Milford.
Prior to joining LRHC, Dr. Hurst has had over twenty-five years of clinical experience in the Behavioral Health Field. Dr. Hurst’s experience includes working as a Nurse Manager at the Delaware Psychiatric Center, a Community Mental Health Nurse at Horizon House Delaware, a Nurse Coordinator at Meadowwood Behavioral Health, and as a Prescriber at Focus Behavioral Health at The Beach
Dr. Hurst earned an ASN from the University State of New York, a BSN from Wilmington University, an MSN from the University  of Delaware, Clinical Nurse Specialist: Psychiatric, and a Doctoral Of Nursing Practice from the University of Delaware.
Dr. Hurst is licensed as a Psychologist – Counseling by the State of Delaware.
Kristine Hutchison, BHC
Kristine joined La Red Health Center in February of 2019 and works as a Behavioral Health Consultant the Milford Family Practice site.
Prior to joining La Red Health Center, Kristine has had over twenty years of experience in the Behavioral Health Field including working as a Military and Family Life Counselor at the Dover Air Force Base, a Counselor III at the Gateway Foundation Residential Treatment Center, a Program Manager at Brandywine Counseling and Community Services, a Therapist at the Center for Mental Wellness, and a Manager/ Therapist at Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin for their Women’s Recovery Journey Co –Occurring Treatment Program. 
In addition, Kristine has served as an Adjunct Instructor in the Masters of Counseling Program for Lakeland College in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Kristine earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as well a Masters of Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. 
Kristine is licensed as a Professional Counselor of Mental Health by the National Board of Certified Counselors, and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
John Russum, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
John joined La Red Health Center in February of 2020 as the Administrator of LRHC’s Behavioral Health Team, which provides services out of the Georgetown, Milford and Seaford Family Practice Sites as well as the Sussex Technical High School 
John is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of counseling experience who will work with adolescents and adults with behavioral health and substance use needs at the Georgetown Family Practice Site.
John’s previous experience includes working as the Director of Clinical Services for Dover Behavioral Health Systems, and working as an Allied Health Professional preforming psychiatric consultations for patients admitted to Bayhealth Hospital. 
John earned a Masters of Social Work from Delaware State University and also a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Delaware State University. 
Jesus Santana, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Jesus is a biiingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 7 years of counseling experience.
Jesus earned a Masters of Social Work from Delaware State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Baruch College. 
Jesus will provide therapy for adults and children out of LRHC's Georgetown and Seaford Offices.

Women's Health

Ian Baxter, DO, OBGYN
Dr. Baxter holds his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at the United States Air Force/Wright-Patterson Medical Center, WPAFB in Ohio and Wright State University/Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton Ohio.
Dr. Baxter is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Certified Da Vinci Console Surgeon. He has worked as a Clinical Instructor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE and is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
He has authored and presented a scanning electron microscopic analysis of labored and unlabored human umbilical cord vessels at the 2004 ACOG Armed Forces District Meeting and authored a scanning electron microscopic analysis of various biological specimens prepared by a modified freeze substitution technique for his Master's Thesis.
He is currently a full time hospital employed OB/GYN in Seaford, DE with Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and is also a trainer for instructing physicians on implantable contraception through an FDA certified program. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery. 
Abha Gupta, MD, OBGYN
Dr. Gupta holds her Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology from Punjab University, Christian Medical College, Punjab, India and a Masters of Public Health from the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Gupta  completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ. Dr. Gupta is licensed and certified in New Jersey and Delaware and is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Obstetrics, and the Committee of Interns & Residents, UMDNJ.
Dr. Gupta was awarded the Arnold P Gold " Excellence in Humanism & Teaching Award", and the Berlex, "Best Resident Teaching Award "from the Department of OB-GYN at UMDNJ
James P. Rupp, MD, OBGYN
Dr. James P. Rupp is a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist. 
He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Thomas Jefferson
Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa.
Dr. Rupp currently practices office and hospital Gynecology,
including traditional and micro invasive Gyn surgery, cancer screening,
fertility and osteoporosis therapy and incontinence diagnosis and therapy.  
Dr. Rupp comes to LRHC from private practice where he has had thirty years of experience in the practice of Gynecology.
Coleen Brogan, CNM, Certified Nurse Midwife
Coleen  holds  a BSN from Graceland College in Iowa and a Masters in Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
Coleen received a post graduate degree in Midwifery at the Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Health in KY.
Coleen has extensive experience and has practiced as a midwife on the East & West Coasts.
Stacey A. Kemp, RNC, WHCNP
Stacey has over twenty years of clinical experience and has been board-certified as a women's health care nurse practitioner since 1997.
Stacey holds a diploma as a women's health care nurse practitioner from Emory University and a Master in Science in Nursing with a specialization in community health clinical from Wesley College.
Stacey is seeing women's health patients at our Georgetown Health Center, and is the Sussex Tech Wellness Center Coordinator.
Gloria Ann Lester, EdD, MSN, CRNP
Gloria is a certified women's health nurse practitioner and nurse colposcopist who holds a BSN from the University of Delaware, a certificate from the University of Pennsylvania OBGYN nurse practitioner program, a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University, a Master of Science in Women's Health from Wilmington University, and an EdD in Education, Innovation, and Leadership from Wilmington University. Gloria has received numerous awards throughout her academic career.
Gloria is an associate professor on the Faculty of Wilmington University who teaches primarily in the Masters of Nursing Program.
